About this educational activity

Superior outcomes with sNPWT compared to tNPWT in lower extremity ulcers

Superior outcomes with single use NPWT compared to traditional NPWT in lower extremity ulcers

A randomised controlled trial (RCT) compared PICOSingle Use Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System (sNPWT) to traditional NPWT (tNPWT) for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and venous leg ulcers (VLUs).

Surprisingly sNPWT was shown to be superior to tNPWT in a range of clinical endpoints.

We present the results of the RCT and new research to understand the mode of action  to explain why sNPWT is superior to tNPWT.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the protocol used  in the Kirsner et al 2019 RCT
  • Compare the RCT study endpoints between sNPWT and tNPWT
  • Be aware of the unique mode of action seen with sNPWT compared to tNPWT in new in vitro studies
