Introduction to wound infection + management
Wound infection is the invasion of the body by harmful micro-organisms (pathogens), such as bacteria or fungi, which grow and multiply there.
Whether in chronic wounds or acute wounds, it is an important healthcare burden and requires early recognition and prompt intervention. This needs to be appropriate in the background of growing antibiotic resistance and the need for antimicrobial stewardship.
